Abstract:

The proliferation of high-end mobile devices with mammoth computation, communication, and storage capabilities, are the pinnacle of evolution caused by social networks today. This has, at least in part, contributed to the realization of new and exciting services and applications through other networking technologies including vehicular networks. Vehicular networks technology is marching towards deployment in the huge masses of vehicles, glimpse of which we can see in the form of connected cars trial runs. Vehicles in vehicular networks can be seen as mobile nodes of a social network, socializing with each other through different messages to exchange useful information. More precisely, traditional vehicular networks have evolved to Vehicular Social Networks. This talk will cover the journey from traditional vehicular networks to vehicular social networks including the huge paradigm shift, rationale for transition, current trends, solutions, and future research challenges of the vehicular social networks.
